Judy Chamberlain Jazz and Swing - Los Angeles Wedding Music
Singer, bandleader and entertainer Judy Chamberlain's enormous repertoire and skill at reading a crowd have made her one of the most sought-after wedding music professionals in Southern California. Says Chamberlain, a featured performer at the **** Playboy Jazz Festuval in Los Angeles: "From Cole Porter and George Gershwin to the Beatles, Motown, R&B, funk and disco, it's all swing to me!" “Judy Chamberlain wrote the book on fabulous; there is nobody else like her doing weddings on either coast,” says a New York concert promoter. “She has a really magnificent voice - think Ella Fitzgerald meets James Brown - and a unique rapport with the audience. She can engage an audience at a huge concert venue, then she turns around and does the most incredible dance music for weddings – which she obviously loves doing more than anything in the world. If she didn’t exist, somebody would have to invent her.” Chamberlain, a former TV and radio personality - and a major force behind the scenes in the Los Angeles entertainment world - receives rave reviews from the press, fellow wedding vendors and delighted clients alike. The Los Angeles Times, K-JAZZ FM and The Orange County Register are among dozens of media entities that have praised her talent, showmanship and “encyclopedic knowledge of American popular music.” Her longtime guitarist, the legendary Al Viola, who was on every album Frank Sinatra recorded from ****-****, says, “Judy can read a crowd instantly. She has ‘it,’ that indefinable quality that made Sinatra great. Audiences love her. Onstage and off, she really knows how to take care of business.” "Judy is exceptional in the planning stages of an event," says a wedding coordinator who has worked with her for years. She has great empathy and devotes herself to giving people exactly what they want." A groom who confesses that he was under tremendous pressure to please his guests says, "We are real music lovers, and almost everyone in our family has been a professional musician at one time or another. And they all love to dance. They warned us: 'This had better be good.' And Judy and the band just blew them away. Our friends and relatives all asked us, 'Where did you find a band like this to play for your wedding?'" With a repertoire that numbers thousands of songs and spans all the decades and styles of American music, on-the-spot requests are child's play for Judy. But she does admit to being thrown for a loop when Paul Anka wanted to know if she ever sang his classic, "My Way." When she joked with him about her usual response - "Do I look like Paul Anka... or Frank Sinatra?" - Anka promptly offered to re-write the lyrics for her. So now she has her own version of the song. Anka entitled it “My Way, Her Way.” “But when it comes to weddings, there’s only one star,” says Chamberlain. “And that’s the one in white.” "Singer/bandleader Judy Chamberlain has mastered the art of mesmerizing both the audience and her own band."
"Judy Chamberlain is a walking encyclopedia of the Great American Songbook."
“… Chamberlain has a voice that is fine and mellow, phrasing that is sublime and energy that is contagious…the crowd was enthralled…one talented jazz singer… “
"A fine, articulate performer...easygoing interaction with her listeners...swinging....marvelously spontaneous....solidly reaffirming the music's far-reaching capabilities...the pleasures of jazz as entertainment..."
"When swing singer Judy Chamberlain is in the house, the joint is always jumpin'."
“She makes you laugh, cry and want to dance and drink martinis all night…”
"A superb vocalist and bandleader...skilled at creating head arrangements and reading a crowd. Like Duke Ellington, Chamberlain is a master at gathering together superb soloists and blending them into a unique ensemble."
"The best thing we ever did was hire Judy Chamberlain to do our daughter's wedding. The second best thing we did was listen to her - and trust her! She and her very talented musicians kept our guests mesmerized all night."
"I know I had a great wedding, because you had to scream at the guests to get them OFF the dance floor!"
"Judy Chamberlain is an incredible torch singer, and I say that as someone who hates jazz utterly and completely."
